In this class students of all levels will create unique collages that explore the picture plane using found materials, painted paper, hand-drawn imagery, and layers adhered on paper. Students are encouraged to gather found materials in conjunction with creating painted surfaces to make collages that engage the subject matter of their choosing. Combining techniques used in painting and drawing students will investigate ways to compose complex compositions using found and repurposed materials. Collage is a fundamental process in many artist studios, often used to explore creative ways of constructing an image with a unique sense of play and flexibility.
